Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well. I know submissions have been slow lately, but I have a lot planned and I can't wait to share new images with you guys.

Just so you know, I have a facebook page at facebook.com/ajfrena.illustrat… , a tumblr wardoggie.tumblr.com , a twitter twitter.com/AJFrena and an instagram instagram.com/windupartist . I post works in progress and information on what I'm up to on these sites, and soon enough I will be active enough on all to hopefully post up some other interesting things as well.

If you enjoy my work, please spread the word! :D

First off, I want to thank everyone for all the feedback, comments and watches as the result of my DD. I haven't updated in awhile, but I hope you guys will stay around for new work.

I don't really have a lot of excuses for why I haven't posted in almost a year. I have been dealing with a lot of problems at home as of late which are not really worth getting into here... but long story short, I've been combating a bit of depression/an art existential crisis as well as moving three times within the past year due to personal issues. It has been a serious damper on my productivity, and the little art I have done has gone towards freelance work.  For this, I seriously apologize to those who are awaiting commissions. I promise I have not forgotten about you and I have every piece started... they have just been hectic to finish with all that has been going on in my life at the moment. If you want a refund you may contact me via note. If not, I promise you will have them in due time. I hope they will have been worth the wait. .___.

On a lighter note, I HAVE been getting my mojo back and have quite a few new pieces I'm excited about in the works. So I was wondering, would any of you be interested in me setting up a livestream? I get notes every now and then asking how I do certain things, what I work with, ect. so I thought a stream might be fun. I'd paint, answer questions and chat with you fine people. If I get enough interest, I'll definitely look into it.

Hey guys, I hope everyone has had a good summer and that things are going well!

I will admit that art has been rather slow for me lately. I graduated from college in May, had a death in the family and have been going through a rather pathetic existential crisis of sorts. It's all bullshit excuses I know, but it's taking me a bit longer than I would like to get stuff done.
I have been working on a few things though-- including a diptych s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.c… , cd covers s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.c… , some paintings and a project for a company that I can't really talk about at the moment due to confidentiality, so hopefully I will be able to share these with you fine folks soon.

However, since I haven't been focusing much of my attention on art lately, a lot of my energy has gone towards reading books on history and art surveys. Reading varied accounts of art interpretation has kind of got me thinking.  Most of you only know me from my artwork as I am kinda shy/awkward/dork on the net, so I'm a bit interested-- what does my artwork tell you about myself or my personality? What do you like about my work, or hate about it? What would you be interested in seeing more of?

I'm really interested in hearing what you guys have to say! I stare at these things every day and most critique I get is based on execution rather than concept, so getting fresh insight from people who don't know me would be rather insightful, imo.

Also, I ordered a bunch of new art books for inspiration lately... among them being this beauty www.amazon.com/gp/product/3822… . I highly recommend that you check his work out, as he does everything I want to do in my art only better. xD

hey guys.... wanted to drop by and say that I now have a twitter account. I'm going to TRY and be active with it, but who knows. It's kind of a miracle that I even made one, considering how bad I am at this social networking thing.  x:

but check it out and follow me if you want at: twitter.com/windup_artist …;

If you like my art it may be worth checking out in the future, as I will probably put up work that I wont necessarily put on my site or in my portfolio. But I'll check you guys around! thanks for all of the birthday wishes that I got. : )

process

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 2, 2010, 11:25 AM

I wasn't sure if anybody would actually be interested in this, but thought that I would put it up anyway.
It is a step-by-step process of how I painted my picture PTSD, and since a new year is coming I figured that this could maybe be a small slimmer of an attempt to be more social on here. It's not that I don't want to be, I'm just shy and awkward!

Anyway, when I do a picture it first starts out with thumbnails. I usually do about three or four of these that I show to my instructor for critique and approval.

On the final product I first measure the paper, cut it, then tape off the edges.

I sketch out the drawing, though the drawing is only kinda a guide. There are plenty of stuff in this version that didn't make it to the final cut, that I painted over or whatever.

... just painting from here on out. I sometimes start out by tinting the paper.

I did do a few more final edits, but that's pretty much it.

Hope everyone is having a good winter and enjoying the holidays!

Whoa, thanks so much for the 2nd DD. I definitely was not expecting to find that when I checked my DA this morning.
Thank you so much to all of my new watchers, all of your comments, and exillior for suggesting me!

Since I do not have much to give as thanks, and since everyone loves puppies, I'll leave this journal with some photos of my Layla. She has become such a handful, but what can I say-- it's too difficult to stay angry with that face. : ) yfrog.com/1nlayla4jx

I now have a blog where I post up sketches, my works in progress, upcoming shows, ect. There isn't much up now that isn't here, but if you want to check it out you can find me at:

windup-artist.blogspot.com or cross-posted at
windup-artist.livejournal.com

They will do until I finally get enough work done to make a website. : )

I turned 20 today...

of course I had to celebrate by going to get Thai food with friends and buying myself a R4 card for my DS. I can't wait to play GTA, platinum and put Monkey Island on it.

I also swear that I have been making art-- just haven't been creating anything post-worthy, really.

img6.imageshack.us/img6/1134/t… <-- me drinking thai iced tea. What my friends have probably discovered is that the best way to make me happy is to take me to a Thai restaurant. A cup of tom yum soup later and I'm pretty much all smiles.

but yeah. yay for two decades?

sorry for the lack of art. i have rather lost my drive, and life has been kind of hectic.

however, i have an upcoming exhibit on 26th street (i believe) in manhattan, so if you happen to be in the area during the fall and are interested in seeing my work in the exhibit drop me a line. i'll probably update this as well with information when the time comes.

my friend also lent me their cyclos evolution for the ds, and i now fully understand what she meant by taking it was saving her social life. working retail and fully functional roms do not quite mix well.

sorry about the lack of art lately. school has really been keeping me busy, and although I have worked on personal work quite a bit, I have had less time to do so. plus lately I have kinda lost my drive.

But soon enough I should have about two new pieces up. Both are almost finished being colored, and in my personal opinion show a rather large change in the way that I usually approach my style. I also have begun a long term project, which is a large picture about 7 feet long. (haha with how long it takes me to pull out a regular piece, I imagine that this is going to take quite some time)

nfaa was also quite fun. SCAD offered me quite a bit of money, which I guess would matter if I wasn't at SVA. But otherwise, I did win money and am now almost the owner of a brand new cintiq 12x. maybe now I'll actually try to make my art marketable?

I moved to New York City yesterday, and am now residing in my new apartment. I am now very much ready to attend my first year at the School of Visual Arts.

Things are going rather good so far...things are cool. Nothing much has really happened since it is only much moving-in day (met room mate, arranged beds, ect. ect)-- but school is starting in nine days, and there are a lot of things to do in between.

Buuut... hopefully soon enough I will finish some new art. :D
